ANTHONY: WHEN LAMSON HAS MOVED SOME OF HIS COVER OPERATIONS OUT OF SHELBURNE FALLS, HIS OWN MILL BUILDINGS HAS NOT BEEN EMPTY FOR A LONG TIME. >> IS JUST WONDERFUL THAT THE MILL, WHICH I PREPOSED FOR 100 YEARS, WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE CITY, AS AN EMPLOYER, IN ANOTHER IMPORTANT WAY. ANTHONY: AND – AND LOFQUIST IS A PAINTER. ONE OF THE DOZENS OF ARTISTS AND ARTISANS TO SETTLE IN THIS GIANT INDUSTRIAL SPACE. ALWAYS RAW, BUT ARTFULLY REIMAGINED. >> FOR EXAMPLE THESE WINDOWS AND A LOT OF WOOD, MOST OF THE WOOD THAT WAS USED TO DIVIDE THE STUDIO SPACES WAS ALL HERE. ANTHONY: EMILY GO BEEN LOVES THE LIGHT, SPACE AND TEXTURES OF HER STUDIO. AFTER WORKING ALONE FOR YEARS AT HER KITCHEN, SHE ENJOYS THE COMPANY OF OTHER CREATIVES. >> THE IDEA, THE SENSE IS THAT THIS IS A COMMUNITY. A COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS WORKING TOGETHER AND SHARING SPACE TOGETHER. >> IT IS DIFFICULT TO LEAVE HERE BUT IT IS VERY EASY TO GET HERE. ANTHONY: PAT MORIARTY, TRAINING ENGINEER, TAKEN A RETIREMENT TEST. BUT HE DIDN’T TAKE. >> I was bored of my water bottle the first day. ON THE SECOND DAY I READ A BOOK MY MOM GIVEN ME 15 YEARS MORE ON HOW TO MAKE CHAIRS. ANTHONY: A NEW COMPANY, CON O THE PRESIDENT FOLLOWED AFTER A NUMBER OF YEARS OF WORK FROM HOME, MORIARTY WAS HAPPY TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST TENANTS AT THE MILL OF SHELBURNE FALLS. AFFORDABLE RENTS LED TO A COMPLETE HOME AND A LONG WAITING LIST. >> BIG SPACE, BIG COMMUNITY, BIG PEOPLE HERE, BIG OWNERS. THE VISION OF THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. WE SEE NOTHING BUT GOOD HERE. AND I AM SO HAPPY to be a part of it. ANTHONY: THIS IS A FEELING SHARED BY MANY HERE IN SHELBURNE FALLS. THIS LITTLE RIVERFRONT VILLAGE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN HOLLYWOOD IF IT DOESN’T ALREADY EXIST. >> THIS CITY IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE ENERGY OF THE CITY, IN TERMS OF THE ARTIST. THERE ARE MANY GLASS BLOWERS, Writers, MANY CRAFTSMEN. >> THIS IS A LITTLE HOLLYWOOD SET, PEOPLE ARE ARTISTIC, CREATIVE, IT’S A COOL COMMUNITY. ANTHONY: AND A WORLD AWAY FROM THE ONLY KATIE COLEMAN SHARED WITH HER KNOWLEDGE ASTRONAUTS IN HOUSTON AND BEYOND. >> I THINK IT IS REALLY UNIMAGINABLE TO MY FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES THAT SUCH A PLACE LIKE OUR FARM AND JOSH’S STUDIO AND SHELBURNE FALLS EXISTS. I LOVE TO BE HERE AND IT’S LIKE A FAIRY TALE. ANTHONY: A FAIRY IF YOU HAVE A TOLERANCE FOR RANDOM APRIL STORMS. WELL DONE FOR HOLLYWOOD THOUGHT. IT’S “CHRONICLE” FOR TONIGHT. THANKS FOR JOIN US. I AM ANTHONY EVERETT.
