Mikel Arteta comments on Anfield atmosphere at Liverpool vs Arsenal

Mikel Arteta will be hoping Arsenal can top the Anfield atmosphere next week against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. The two teams drew 0-0 in the first leg.

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal will need a good atmosphere in the Emirates next week if they are to defeat Liverpool. They will draw a goalless draw in the first leg after a very, very frustrating night at Anfield.

“I now expect our fans to create an even better atmosphere than what we saw today, which was really good. ” he told Sky Sports. “We’re going to need them to beat a top team.”

Arteta therefore recognizes Arsenal’s small advantage against Liverpool next week. The second leg will be in the Emirates, after all, with last week’s postponement trading the home advantage for both teams.

It’s a real shame after last night’s result and shows how much of a missed opportunity the Anfield game was. The Reds will be kicking each other.

Liverpool v Arsenal

Liverpool should have won this game and they should have won it comfortably. They played the vast majority against 10 men, after all, but only managed one shot on target the entire game.

RONALDO MUST STOP CRYING.

And it happened in the dying minutes, with substitute Curtis Jones eventually managing to squeeze one between defenders. Liverpool lack invention and killer instinct, allowing Arsenal to clinch.

So instead of sending the Gunners back in a deflated Emirates next week, they’ll face a vibrant squad. This is the biggest missed opportunity here. Yes, Liverpool can still win the draw, but they left the door wide open.

The vibe in the Emirates really shouldn’t have a role to play here. Liverpool must face it now, however – and it is an unfortunate failure of Anfield.
