birmingham [UK]July 28 (ANI): As the Commonwealth Games are fast approaching in Birmingham, Dame Louise Martin, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, says excitement for the Games is too high in the city and cricket women in a multi-sport event changing the mood.
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will take place from July 28 to August 8. India will be represented by 215 athletes who will participate in 141 events in 19 sports disciplines.
“My legs are shaking. I’m trying to keep calm. It’s a dream come true. The atmosphere in the city is absolutely great… it’s buzzing. Everyone is excited about it,” said Dame Louise Martin at ANI.

Women’s T20I cricket makes its Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham this year, with the top eight teams competing for the gold medal.
Speaking about wrestling not being part of the 2026 Games, Dame said, “Wrestling is not on the list yet. To see women’s cricket in multi-sport events is great. It will change the whole atmosphere.”
India has fielded a contingent of 321 which includes 215 athletes and 107 officials and support staff for the quadrennial event.
Some prominent names in the team include Olympic medalists PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar Dahiya, defending CWG champions Manika Batra and Vinesh Phogat and 2018 Asian Games gold medalists Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Hima Das and Amit Panghal. (ANI)
