Highest Total Ever Recorded, Uttarakhand Records 8,517 New Covid Cases, 151 Deaths | Dehradun News

Dehradun: Uttarakhand recorded its highest number of Covid cases and deaths in one day on Thursday. With 8,517 new cases, the total tally of the virus in the state has now reached 220,351 while the single-day death toll has also reached a high of 151 recorded deaths in 24 hours.
According to the health department, more than 33,000 samples were tested Thursday. In the state capital alone, Dehradun, 3,123 positive cases have been reported.
There were 1130 new cases in Udham Singh Nagar, 1045 in Haridwar, 847 in Nainital, 413 in Pauri, 389 in Uttarkashi, 348 in Chamoli, 276 in Champawat, 256 in Tehri, 229 in Almora, 212 in Pithoragarh, 140 in Rudraprayag and 109 in Bageshwar.
“With 151 dead on Thursday, the state’s total death toll reached 3,293.
Among those who died from the infection was BP Singh, the director of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. He was admitted to a military hospital last week and died on Thursday.
Meanwhile, 30 people in a remote village of Pauri have been infected after attending weddings in the past fortnight. The village has become a containment zone as almost all households have reported a positive case or people showing symptoms.
Dr Pukesh Pandey, the doctor in charge of Jehrikhal block in Pauri, said there were two weddings in the village between April 20 and 25 and several guests from other states and districts were in attendance.
“After the wedding ceremony was over, the people in the village started complaining of fever and cough. On May 3, a team from the health department took samples from 42 people and sent them for RT-PCR. About 30 have tested positive. Today we sampled the whole village, ”added Dr Pandey.
With the increase in cases, the number of containment areas in the state reached 342. In addition, the number of active patients increased to 62,911 while total recoveries reached 149,489 with 4,548 patients recovering on Thursday. .
