Hammarby IF fans went viral after creating an incredible atmosphere for the team’s Stockholm derby with AIK.
Hammarby beat rivals 4-1, with Madelen Janogy, Alice Carlsson, Berglind Björg Ãorvaldsdóttir and Emma Jansson all on the scoresheet. Honoka Hayashi scored the lone goal for AIK.
The home side took the win in front of a record attendance of 18,537, with jubilant fans crammed into the Tele2 Arena.
Clips of the incredible atmosphere have now gone viral. The first video to capture the attention of social media users was of Hammarby IF fans singing and chanting on their way to the stadium.
Fans are then shown giving the home team an incredible welcome on the pitch, before loudly showing their appreciation to the players after the final whistle.
Twitter users described the videos as “amazing” and “very cool,” with many saying they got goosebumps watching them.
Others have used the videos to rebut the theory that people don’t care about women’s football. âNobody cares about women’s football, they said,â one Twitter user joked.
Hammarby participates in the Swedish women’s football championship, the Damallsvenskan. They are currently fifth in the table with 28 points, 20 points behind FC RosengÃ¥rd. AIK lags considerably, ranking 11th with 16 points.
The squad includes a number of international players, including Sweden’s Janogy and Australia’s Elise Kellond-Knight. The team, which last won the Damallsvenskan in 1985, is led by Pablo Piñones Arce.
