GRAND FORKS – She asked, “Where could we go to dinner?”
I suggested “The Grilled Frog”.
My daughter, GH (Gail Hagerty) was in Grand Forks from Bismarck on business for a few days. Dinner was my bonus.
This restaurant, which has always dared to be different, is located downtown on North Third Street. There are limited parking spaces in an adjacent lot and parking spaces here and there on North Third. Usually nearby.
The menu includes a quinoa bowl ($16) with brown rice, red quinoa, served in a bed of spinach and topped with salsa cruda, avocado, lime wedge and flour tortilla strips fried. Entrees also include fish tacos, pickerel piccata, pork tenderloin, salmon – as well as filet mignon, New York Strip. And there’s the wood-fired pizza.
There are sumptuous choices. The sandwiches include an Elk burger and a Moroccan-spiced lamb burger. Appetizers range from fish tacos to picatta to walleye. Prices go up to $33 for the filet mignon. There are evening specials
The wood-fired pizza is offered in eight versions.
Unique desserts include pear pie, wood-fired s’mores, and baked brie. A flourless chocolate pudding is served with vanilla ice cream, caramel and hazelnut chocolate sauce. The lemon cake is presented with raspberry infused goat cheese.
