Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazno, along with Calafia Airlines executives and tourism officials, announced that the airline will connect Tijuana (TIJ) to Puerto Peñasco (PPE), starting April 19.
Calafia Airlines will operate two weekly flights (Monday and Friday) to Tijuana with Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft, with a capacity of 50 passengers. In addition, from Tijuana it will be possible to connect to Loreto (LTO) and La Paz (LAP) in Baja California Sur.
The renovated Sea of Cortes International Airport, which serves Puerto Peñasco, will have commercial flights again with this announcement. TAR Aerolineas operated between July and November 2016 in Hermosillo (HMO), Tijuana (TIJ) and Ciudad Juarez (CJS).
This new route will once again bring tourists closer to Tijuana and especially to California, USA, which chooses the Mexican beaches of Sonora and Baja California Sur every year. Officials mentioned that the US state is the sixth largest economy in the world, a market with high purchase value, where they will seek to attract tourists with the attractions of its coasts.

This is excellent news for us, which opens up additional communication possibilities to those that Puerto Peñasco already has by land, and it will allow us to offer all the attractions of this extraordinary city to the market of Tijuana, but especially in the Californian market,” commented the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazno.

Calafia Airlines connects the Mexico Pacific from the states of Baja California Sur, Baja California, Sonora, Nueva Leon, Sinaloa, Chihuahua and Jalisco. It has a fleet of two Embraer 120ER, three Embraer ERJ 145ER and one ERJ 145LR.
