Blackberry’s Bar & Grill Brings New Flavor to Grand Island This Summer

GRAND ISLAND, NY (WKBW) – The MacClellan family wanted to create a restaurant with a fun bar atmosphere for parents, where you can always bring Grandma and the kids to enjoy. Achieving the location of their dreams during a pandemic was far from easy.

“It’s always been a dream of mine, for about 10 years I’ve always wanted a restaurant and bar,” said Jason MacClellan.

He and his wife Ann have spent a lot of time over the years watching restaurant shows for research purposes.

The MacClellan family, Hannah, Ann and Jason are getting ready for a fun first summer at their restaurant.

“Lots of ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’, I got a lot of ideas. Go out to restaurants and see what we think is a better fit,” MacClellan said.

They’ve taken the things they love most about a great restaurant, from decor to customer service, and built their own place called Blackberry’s Bar and Grill on Grand Island Boulevard.

“We kind of built a place where we can come with our friends to hang out, and everyone can come with their friends and family and have the bar atmosphere,” MacClellan said.

And they did it all during the pandemic.

“It was tough, when we opened in September it was great and once we had to close because of the advice we got we started making these chicken and drive dinners,” Ann said. MacClellan.

They sold 200 to 300 dinners a week to get through the winter.

“If you can do it, you can do anything,” said Ann MacClellan.

Now they are getting ready for their first summer in business with somewhat normal service to their guests. They are entering summer with big plans, ready to create the atmosphere they always wanted.

They have live music on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Wednesdays are family evenings, with a magic show and everyone receives free s’mores at their table.

And they point out that the rest of the menu is only made with fresh ingredients, which is why their menu is rather small.

Their opening hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and every now and then they have brunch on Sunday.

Throughout the summer, they host private parties, barbecues and festivals starting this Memorial Day weekend.

“Enjoy a great atmosphere, bring your family and friends and come have fun,” said Ann MacClellan.
