Why does an earthquake occur?

Our earth is mainly composed of 4 layers. Inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. It is known that this crust and the core of the upper mantle are also known as the lithosphere. This 50 km thick layer remains divided into several sections. In other words, it is also called tectonic plates. These “tectonic plates” continue to move in their place. But when that plate starts to move too much, we call it an earthquake.

What do you do when an earthquake occurs?

  • If you are inside the house during the earthquake, sit on the floor.
  • Cover your head and face with your hands when sitting under a table or sturdy piece of furniture in the house.
  • Stay indoors until the earthquake hits and only leave your house after the shaking stops.
  • If there is an earthquake at night and you are lying on the bed, lie down, cover your head with a pillow.
  • Immediately turn off all electrical switches in the house.
  • If you are present in a building, exit immediately and enter the open air.
  • Do not use the elevator at all when coming down from the building.
  • If it is not possible to descend from the building, hide under a nearby table, high pole or bed.
  • If you are buried under debris during an earthquake, first cover your mouth with a tissue or rag.
  • Keep playing the pipe or the wall to signal your presence under the rubble, so that rescuers can find evidence that you are alive.
  • If you don’t have a solution, keep shouting and don’t get discouraged at all.
